Invited Talk on Quantitative Magnetic Imaging of Skyrmions using Transmission Electron in PSI Workshop on Topology in Magnetic Materials
November 2022
The main goal of the workshop is to bring together experts in the fields of magnetism and topology in order to discuss the accomplished progress and perspectives for future developments in the field of bulk magnetic topological materials. The program will cover fundamental aspects such as symmetry in topology, focus on topological and emergent properties of non-collinear magnets and multi-k spin textures as well as related experimental and theoretical methods. While a broad overview of the field will be discussed, a particular emphasis will be on the application of scattering techniques for the experimental elucidation of complex magnetic phases and textures. We aim to develop interdisciplinary communication and collaborations among internationally leading experts and to encourage young researchers to contribute to the field.
VIRTUAL PROJECT MEETING WITH SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD
sEPTEMBER 30th, 2021
In the virtual project meeting each partner of the 3D MAGiC project presented the results and reported on topological-chiral magnetic interactions, ab initio investigations of materials to host magnetic hopfions, experimental detection of hopfions, EMLD and EMCD studies of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin textures, laser and electric field induced micromagnetic transformations, observation of skyrmion braids, thermal diffusion of near-compensated synthetic antiferromagnetic skyrmions, current induced interlayer DMI in multilayer stacks, magnetic textures in van der Waals ferromagnets, and instrumentation developments for dynamic magnetic imaging in TEM. Furthermore, experiments and investigations planned for the next period were discussed and assessed by the Scientific Advisory Board.
SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS OF COHERENT ELECTRON BEAM MANIPULATION
September 1st – 3rd, 2021
This conference, jointly organized by the EU funded Q-SORT, 3D MAGiC, SMART-electron, and MINEON projects was combined with the Holo Workshop and explored coherent electron-beam manipulation from different complementary perspectives. The different reference communities of the four organising projects had the chance to exchange ideas and to discourse different concepts to measure characteristic properties of materials. The 3D MAGiC session focused on the new ideas of control and measurement of surprising magnetic states with unconventional spin structure and advanced magnetic field control.VIRTUAL WORKSHOP ON MAGNONS
FEBRUARY 1st, 2021
The workshop aims at introducing relevant concepts of resonant magnonic eigenstates, spin oscillations, spin waves in skyrmion lattices, and measurement techniques. The presentations include both, leading experts of the field Igor Barsukov (University of California), Isabella Boventer (CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay), and experts from the 3D MAGiC project partners.
VIRTUAL 3D MAGiC PROJECT MEETING
NOVEMBER 17th – 18th, 2020
During this virtual meeting we will discuss the visualization of 3-dimensional spin textures, theoretical analysis of diversity of magnetic states in chiral magnets, spin textures stabilized by interlayer DMI, recent developments of 3-dimensional non-collinear magnets, ultrafast neuromorphic computing, non-conventional computing with skyrmions and hopfions, structure and magnetic state of van der Waals ferromagnets, and the magnetic structure of antiferromagnetic materials with EMLD and EMCD. Dedicated break-out discussion sessions will focus on chiral bobbers and RKKY-interactions, hopfions, manipulation and ultrafast dynamics, and new applications of magnetic textures for beyond von Neumann computing.
VIRTUAL MINI-SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTRON HOLOGRAPHY AND SEMPA
OCTOBER 15TH, 2020
This virtual mini-symposium aims at introducing the physics and background of SEMPA, off-axis electron holography and Lorentz TEM techniques dedicated to magnetic imaging; hands-on experience in measuring magnetic properties of Bloch and Néel skyrmions with TEM to measure domain wall chirality in an SEM will be shared. The presentations will be followed by extensive discussions on measurement details and processing strategies.
VIRTUAL 3D MAGiC PROJECT MEETING
September 7th, 2020
This virtual project meeting aims at introducing the research groups through short presentations of theoretical and experimental studies of skyrmions in chiral magnets and multilayer heterostructures including the overview of the instrumentation updates that are needed to observe skyrmions in high spatial resolution and skyrmion dynamics induced by light, magnetic field and electrical bias.
